On May 24, 1996, Illinois Governor Jim Edgar signed into law
SB 1773, the bill which would unconstitutionally prohibit
recognition of same-sex marriages performed outside of
Illinois.

Please contact Governor Edgar immediately to express your
anger with his decision. Non-Illinoisians are encouraged to
join in as well as state residents.

HOW TO SPEAK UP:
----------------

  Call: (217) 782-6830 or (312) 814-2121
  Fax: (217) 524-1675
  E-mail: governor@state.il.us

You can also write to Governor Edgar through the Web:

Please consider also sending the governor a snail-mail
letter. Postal mail is generally taken more seriously
than phone calls or e-mail. Governor Edgar's address is:

	Governor Jim Edgar
	Illinois State House
	Springfield, IL 62706

POINTS TO MAKE:
---------------

  * Tell the governor that you are appalled that he would
sign a bill authored by the Illinois Christian
    Coalition.

  * Point out that the Supreme Court's recent ruling in
Romer v. Evans spoke out harshly against unequal legal
standards for homosexuals and heterosexuals, legal
    inequities perpetrated by SB 1773.

  * Let him know that legislation like this should not have
been allowed to pass without substantial public
    discussion.

  * Inform him that you will support movements to overturn
    the bill.

Although we have lost this battle, we can win the war. In
order to do that, we can't let the legislators or the
Governor off the hook! Please help.
