Date: Thu, 27 Apr 1995 07:51:05 -0400 (EDT) From: David Casti Reply-To: James Yorton Subject: ACTION ALERT: Illinois SB 994 Submitted by: James Yorton NOTE: Despite what you may have heard, the Illinois Gay Rights bill, Senate Bill 994 is NOT yet dead. The Illinois Federation for Human Rights (IFHR) informed us that SB-994 has now been assigned to a sub-committee. This is a maneuver, which came as no surprise, to kill it because the votes are there to pass it with a full Senate vote. Senator James "Pate" Phillips is responsible for this. Governor Jim Edgar (R) has said he would sign the bill. ACTION: Call, write or FAX all 4 senators below and ask them to: "Support Senate Bill 994 by voting to move SB-994 out of sub-committee and to a full Senate vote." Also remind them that this is not "special rights" as discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation is perfectly legal unless it is specifically prohibited. Letters and FAXes are best, but phone calls are OK too.
