Subject: ACTION-ALERT: Illinois Gay Rights Bill

Submitted by: James Yorton <jjy@xnet.com>

>From the Illinois Federation for Human Rights (IFHR):

"Senate Bill 994, The Illinois Gay and Lesbian Civil Rights bill, was
introduced in the Illinois Senate on March 3, 1995.

It is crucial that the sponsors of SB 994 receive calls, letters or FAXes
from people who appreciate what they have done."

SB 994 will be scheduled for a committee vote in a few weeks. Let's
call them before the Radical Right does.

A simple, "Thank you for supporting civil rights protections for
gay and lesbians by sponsoring SB 994", is all that is needed in a
phone call, letter, or FAX. Please direct it to:

Senator David Barkhausen (R-Lake Forest)
273 Market Square
Lake Forest, IL 60045
Voice: 708-234-1630
FAX: 708-234-0722

Senator Bruce Farley (D-Chicago)
4740 - N. Lincoln Ave.
Chicago, IL 60625
Voice: 312-728-6300
FAX: 312-271-4467

Senator Barkhausen is THE FIRST REPUBLICAN to ever sign on as chief
sponsor of an Illinois gay rights bill and he needs to know that he
did the right thing.

SB 994 would ban discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation
in employment, housing, public accomodations, and credit transactions.
Governor Jim Edgar (R) said he would sign the bill.

It is important to call or write these individuals, even if you don't
live in their districts as they are the chief sponsors.

IFHR is also looking for Corporate supporters and sponsors, so if your
company, church, business, or organization is supportive of this type of
legislation, please contact IFHR.
