CHURCH LEADERS UNITE TO OPPOSE
PROPOSITION ONE

About 30 people joined Boise Rabbi Daniel Fink
in prayer Friday for a "healing of the bitterness
and misunderstanding" surrounding Idaho's
Proposition One.

The group, attending the noon service, represented
at least 10 different faiths, Fink said.

Voices of Faith, a coalition of local church leaders,
will sponsor similiar services each Friday at the
Ahavath-Beth Israel Synagogue. The services are
open to anyone who wants to come and will continue
at least until Election Day.

The group maintains that religion is being wrongly used
as a political tool in the debate over Proposition One.
The measure, which appears on the November ballot,
would prevent the state from passing laws to protect
gays and lesbians from discrimination.

Voices of Faith was formed in February 1992. The
interdenominational group is opposed to Proposition
One, but that is not the only item on the agenda.

Leaders from various local churches will take turns leading
the Friday services at the synagogue, 1102 W. State St.
Here is the schedule through September:

* Friday: The Rev. Elizabeth Greene, Unitarian Universalist
Fellowship.
* Sept. 23: The Rev. Tom Tucker, First United Methodist
Church.
* Sept. 30: The Rev. Tyrone Sweeting, Metropolitian Community
Church.
