IDAHO The right-wing Idaho Citizens Alliance has succeeded in putting an anti-gay initiative, Proposition One, on this November's ballot. The Radical Right, led by Pat Robertson's Christian Coalition, has made passage of the measure a top priority this year, pouring vast resources into the contest. Radical Right efforts are being challenged by the No On One Coalition, which is assembling an impressive and diverse statewide coalition to fight the measure. If Proposition One passes, it will repeal and block laws banning anti-lesbian/gay discrimination. It would also ban legal recognition of same-sex unions, outlaw discussion of homosexuality in schools, and censor gay-related library materials. OREGON For the second time in three years, Lon Mabon's extremist Oregon Citizens Alliance (OCA) has managed to put an anti-gay initiative, Ballot Measure 13, on the ballot in Oregon. As in Idaho, Radical Right groups have put their political and financial clout behind this effort. In Oregon, the No ON 13 Campaign (formerly Support Our Communities PAC) is rallying supporters against the initiative. If passed, the measure will repeal and block laws protecting lesbian, gay and bisexual Oregonians. The measure would also prohibit legal recognition of same-sex unions and the discussion of homosexuality in schools. The OCA has also put similar measures on the local ballots in 25 Oregon localities since the defeat of their statewide measure in 1992. ---------------------------------------------------------------- Both the No On 1 Coalition and the No On 13 Campaign need all the financial help they can get. Not only does the RRR have LOTS of $$$, but they are using the bogus (yet effective) "Special Rights" argument to win their campaign.
