BOISE, ID -- June 25 -- The Idaho State Supreme Court heard 30 minutes from each side of a challenge to the wording of the ballot title of an anti-gay initiative. The ACLU of Idaho filed a complaint with the Supreme Court on May 11 stating that the title does not adequately reflect its discriminatory contents. The title, written by the Idaho attorney general's office reads, "An act establishing state policies regarding homosexuality." The title would be used on ballots and on signature gathering petitions. Kelly Walton, leader of the Idaho Citizens Alliance, an off-shoot of the Oregon anti-gay group -- disagrees. On June 25, ACLU attorneys represented their side in front of the Idaho court. Kelly Walton, alone, represented the ICA. Walton is not an attorney. Opponents to the ICA view this as another indicator that Walton's group is losing support. On May 15, Walton predicted 200 would show up for a signature gathering kick-off, but only 100 attended. The anti-gay initiative could be stalled as a result of the petitions before the court. The court will take the matter under advisement but is not bound to release a decision within a given time frame. --30--
