Date: Wed, 4 Dec 96 10:19:00 HST From: ramsey@math.hawaii.edu (Tom Ramsey) Subject: HAWAII DEC. 4 VICTORY DELAYED!!!! JUDGE CHANG STAYS HIS DECISION, PENDING APPEAL BEFORE HAWAII'S SUPREME COURT This morning, Deputy Attorney General Eichor requested that Judge Chang "stay" his decision, pending an appeal of the decision to Hawaii's Supreme Court. Judge Chang issued the stay, because he didn't want to have to undo marriages should he be over-ruled. Deputy Eichor admitted in court that being over-ruled was unlikely. h.e.r.m.p's attorney Dan Foley appeared at the hearing for the request for a stay, and argued against it. Best Regards, Tom Ramsey P.S. We h.e.r.m.p volunteers did indeed wake up this morning to the fact that we owe tens of thousands of dollars on the court case itself, and that actions such as the hearing this morning cost thousands of dollars each. Please help us sustain the struggle!
