Date: Wed, 3 Jan 1996 13:25:56 -1000 From: Mia H H Lam Subject: HAWAII, JAN. 3 (fwd) WRITE YOUR LEGISLATORS! The feedback from legislators is that they are receiving a trickle of letters, all opposed to same-gender marriage. Please write your legis- lators to describe your support for the commission's recommendation of same-gender marriage. Please let me know what kind of response you get from them. Email address: ramsey@math.hawaii.edu To learn who your legislators are, call the Lt. Governor's office at 453-8683 (number taken from page 15 of the white pages telephone directory) with your street address. They'll be happy to help you. In general, you may address letters to Hawaii State Capitol, Honolulu, HI 96813. All legislators have FAX numbers; you may call their offices to learn the FAX numbers---pages 14 and 15 of the white pages have most legislators phone numbers. A majority of legislators favor domestic partnership in both houses, but the legislators also feel that they are ahead of their constituents on this issue. Please educate your neighbors, friends, families, etc., and spread the word that their communication with their legislators is easy, friendly, and vital. ALWAYS BE POLITE AND COURTEOUS. IF YOU CAN, BE PERSONAL---SAY WHY YOU VALUE INSURANCE PROTECTION, DUAL PARENTING, ETC., FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF YOUR OWN LIFE. Legislators hear plenty of bombast and idiotic theorizing; they don't hear enough personal stories. Aloha! Tom Ramsey Co-Coordinator, HERMP P.S.
