Another demeaning Clay Jones cartoon in Thursday's Star-Bulletin on Timothy McVeigh. Perhaps the editors might get the idea that Jones is besmerching their reputation. As an example of the editorial page of the same day, the Star-Bulletin 1) slams Republican Utah Senator Orin Hatch for blocking judicial appointees of the Clinton Administration, some positions have been vacant since 1995 due to Hatch's politicking, 2) questions non-prison options relating to overcrowding, suggesting that the options are not going to help and the inmates deserve better treatment, and 3) bribary in Japan. Guest commentarys are: 1) Noting that the University could use more donations like the one just received from a private citizen, and 2) two opposing pieces on Independant Prosecutor Starr, one suggesting he is just doing his job, the other suggesting that Starr could use investigating himself. And then this: HONOLULU STAR-BULLETIN P.O. Box 3080 Honolulu, Hawai`i 96802 editor@starbulletin.com January 29, 1998 POLITICAL CARTOON: by Clay Jones Split-frame. On the left, close of up man (labeled Timothy McVeigh) in sailor's cap saying: "The Navy can't persecute me for alleged homosexuality. I won a victory when the court let me return to duty. I'm gonna celebrate . . . " On the right, pan out to "McVeigh" standing on a pier, holding a small tool with a bucket nearby. Submarine as a backdrop. "McVeigh" continues ". . . as soon as I'm finished scraping barnacles off this submarine." ~~pau~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Hillary's conspiracy theory? I believe it--especially after learning the Rutherford Institute is providing legal counsel for Paula Jones. The Rutherford Institute also actively opposing marriage rights for same-sex couples in Hawai`i." --Martin Rice ~~~~~~ Fred and Martin, 25 years, yet strangers before all but 18.8% of the law. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
