HAWAI`I Office of the Governor GOVERNOR APPOINTS CIVIL RIGHTS ATTORNEY DAN FOLEY TO STATE APPEALS COURT Thursday, July 27, 2000 News Release: 00-090 Governor Ben Cayetano today announced the appointment of Honolulu attorney Dan Foley the state's Intermediate Court of Appeals. "Dan Foley is undoubtedly one of the state's top attorneys on Constitutional law," Governor Cayetano said. "He has a reputation for integrity, and his stand on legal issues, regardless of whether politically popular or not, speaks volumes of the courage and commitment he will bring to the Intermediate Court of Appeals." Foley has fought for civil rights throughout most of his legal career, the last eleven years as a partner in Partington & Foley. Prior to that, he was the legal director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Hawai`i and an adjunct Professor of Civil Rights at the William S. Richardson School of Law. Foley also drafted the rules and regulations of the Hawai`i Civil Rights Commission and the Hawai`i Paroling Authority. Foley would fill the seat left vacant by Justice Simeon Acoba, who was appointed to the Hawai`i Supreme Court last spring. Governor Cayetano's appointment is subject to Senate confirmation. The Senate is expected to return to session next month to consider judicial appointments. ~~pau~~
