Subject: URGENT: HAWAII COMING TO CRITICAL DEADLINE WITH ANTI FORCES

Aloha Everyone:
         
    This is an urgent message.  

    Hawaii's well-funded, anti-gay lobby has seriously escalated it's
campaign
of fear against the recognition of same-gender marriages.  It began on Good
Friday when they made sure there was plenty of media coverage for their
demonstration outside of Senator Matt Matsunaga's fundraiser.  Since then,
they have bombarded both of Honolulu Daily Newspapers with fearful letters to
the editor and taken out large newspaper advertisements targeting those
Senators who are courageously voicing support for this civil rights issue;
Senators Matt Matsunaga, Avery Chumbley, Mike McCartney and Wayne Metcalf. 
Finally, on April 2nd + 3rd, all of the anti-gay organizations are planning a
large "stand-in" at the Hawaii Capitol.  

    The anti-gay lobby is reeling from last week's Hawaii Supreme Court
ruling
which halted the prospect of a constitutional convention (Con Con) in 1998. 
With no Con Con, the only way that the anti-gay lobby can stop the State from
issuing same-gender marriage licenses is to step up the pressure on the
Hawaii
legislature.  They are in a BIG rush.  If the anti-gay lobby is unable to get
our State legislature to amend the constitution over this issue by April 11,
1996, they loose.  On the flip side, if civil rights groups can stop them
from terrifying our State legislators from now until April 11th, we win.
 It's
that simple.

    Please help us!  For the next 10 days, we all have to dig in and fight
fire with (sugarcoated) fire.  We can score the civil rights victory of the
decade right here in Hawaii if: WE GO ALL OUT FOR THE NEXT 10 DAYS.

---Tell them your opposed to any constitutional amendment which would deprive
any individual of civil rights, offend the Bill of Rights, or impose one
religious vision of marriage on everyone.

---Call upon them to give gay and lesbian couples the exact same legal
protections currently afforded to heterosexual couples.  

---Let them know all of Hawaii residents should be treated with dignity,
respect and 100% equality.  

    Then, contact your own Senator (to find your Senator's name and number
call 586-6500) and ask them to support the four Senators listed above. 
Finally, and most important, make copies of this message and give it to your
supportive friends, neighbors, and relatives.  If we all do this, we will
win.
