Submitted by: Chris Hagin 1996 OLYMPICS HEADING FOR COBB COUNTY The host city for the 1996 Summer Olympic Games is Atlanta; however, many of the events will take place in locales surrounding Atlanta. Billy Paine, the CEO and President of the Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games (ACOG), has announced the Volleyball tournament will be in Cobb County. The Cobb County Board of Commissioners passed a resolution last year condemning "the gay lifestyle." Pro-gay and lesbian groups in Atlanta have asked ACOG to change the location of the Volleyball tourney if Cobb County does not repeal the anti-gay resolution. On the final day of the Lillehammer Olympics gay and lesbian groups protested the Cobb County venue. ACOG says that the Olympics is "not about politics" and thus will not interfere. We all know that if Cobb County had passed a resolution condemning African-Americans or Jews that ACOG would not find that acceptable. Please write Billy Paine telling him you find any kind of bigotry or intolerance unacceptable. Ask him what he would have done if Cobb had passed a resolution against Jews, disabled people, African Americans or women. Tell him Cobb County should not profit due to its bigotry. Ask him to change the venue for Volleyball immediately. You can contact him at: Mr. Billy Paine, CEO & President Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games P. O.
