Jack Majeske, a resident of Wilton Manors as well as President of the Broward Log Cabin Club of Florida (BLCCF), is ecstatic over his city being the historical awareness center for the June 25th PRIDE of Greater Ft. Lauderdale (PGFL) Year 2000 Stonewall Celebration. While you still read about all the usual corporate sponsorship hype relative to this type of an event you also now hear about the oft' silent backbone of the community. According to Andy Eddy, BLCCF's Director for Community Relations and Outreach, "The Stonewall organizers are reaching out to the volunteer organizations who survive on dues and the kindness of their members and friends to get those though jobs done that the "for profits" just can't tackle. PGFL is going out of its way to enlist just such involvement and equal participation as well as the participation of the local non-gay community. Now, that's more than just commendable!" Volunteer "not-for-profits" have been offered free "Opal Sponsorships" and P.R., free access to the events, a discounted price of $150 for a tent-covered/insured-street booth and an opportunity to participate in a festive parade alone Wilton Drive. You will see both the politically active Log Cabin Club and the Dolphin Democrats strutting their stuff along the Drive. Both groups will have floats and political office holders marching in their ranks. The Italian-American Club will house the official Stonewall historical exhibits, there will be free entertainment at the central stage, and a stunning array of high-profiled guests. According to Mark Ferrara, Broward's Log Cabin Vice President and chair of the club's display committee, "This is grass roots and more than just Broward. It's just the beginning of what will eventually rival those parades and beautiful floats that you see and hear about in Key West during Fantasy Fest."
