PENSACOLA,  Fla.  -   Cash stamped "GAY MONEY" has been circulating through
the city in an effort to demonstrate the economic importance of homosexuals
to the area.

The  anti-gay  stance  of  two  elected officials has angered merchants who
welcome  business  from gay visitors. Christopher Street South, a Pensacola
gay group, estimates that homosexuals spend about $25 million a year in the
area.

   One  bar  and  some  individuals  began  stamping  their cash after City
Council  member  Doug  Proffitt  wrote  to  a television station last month
objecting  to  a news report on Memorial Day weekend activities, which draw
thousands of homosexuals to Pensacola annually
