Activists arrested at White House
Calling for a Presidential Veto of "so called" Defense of Marriage Act

The DOMA 9
Friday, September 13, 1996

The following nine individuals were arrested outside The White House today.
 They were calling on President Bill Clinton to veto DOMA, the Defense of
Marriage Act

They are (in order of arrest)

1) Rev. Ken South (50) of Washington, DC.. 
South is the executive director of the AIDS National Interfaith Network

2) Will Brennan (49) of Washington, DC.
Brennan is the executive director of the National Association of Black &
White Men Together

3) Jim Bennett (40) of Washington, DC.
Bennett is a partner of Lambda Rising Bookstores

4) Rev. Harry Stock (56) of Washington, DC.
Stock is Pastor of the Church of the Disciple, a Metropolitan Community
Church

5) Deacon Maccubbin (53) of Washington, DC.
Maccubbin is a partner of Lambda Rising Bookstores

6) Steve Michael (40) of Washington, DC.
Michael, who is HIV+, is a founding member of ACT UP in Washington.
ACT UP is the AIDS Coalition to Unleash Power.  

7) Rev. Mel White (56) of Laguna Beach, California
White is Justice Minister of the Metropolitan Community Church

8) Wayne Turner (32) of Washington, DC.
Turner is a founding member of ACT UP in Washington.

9) Gary Nixon (45) of Laguna Beach, California
Nixon is executive assistant to the Justice Minister of the Metropolitan
Community Church

Maccubbin and Bennett are life partners,
as are Michael and Turner,
 as well as White and Nixon

all nine were arrested, fined and released  by  the US Park Police
