This is what NGLTF executive director Kerry Lobel said on a panel at the first ever White House Summit on Hate Crimes held on November 10, 1997 in Washington, D.C. Lobel has just completed a seven-city tour during which she heard survivors of hate violence in America's heartland tell compelling and shocking stories of bias attacks. The measure would have banned employment discrimination based on sexual orientation in the state. On the other side of the country, in Maine and in New Hampshire, comprehensive civil rights legislation has been signed into law by both Governors. The Maine law will be challenged in a state referendum. The Federation of state-wide GLBT political organizations is positioned to speak on the state of the states.
