i am once again passing on information about the Essex Hemphill memorial 
to take place in washington, dc on Tuesday, April 16th, 1996. it is being 
organized by Wayson Jones, Ron Simmons, and other friends of Essex 
Hemphill, and is taking place on what would have been Essex's 39th 
birthday. one part of the event being planned is to have audio played of 
several different people speaking about "How Essex or his work influenced 
or impacted on their life." to this end, i was asked to post a 
solicitation online, for anyone interested, to submit an audio cassette of 
their reflections for possible inclusion. the recording should be no more 
than 3 minutes in length (of which only a few seconds may be used) and 
should have good quality sound (ie., no music or other background noise). 
on the tape you should include your name and where you are from. the 
deadline for submissions is FEBRUARY 15, 1996. they can be mailed to:
