"We are growing!" Cook says of his Arvada-based ministry, FaithQuest Colorado, Inc. The growth of Cook's unregulated, unlicensed, and unaccountable sex counseling in Colorado is fueled by Colorado for Family Values, which has promoted and advertised Cook for most of 1995 and continues to endorse Cook as a wonderful counselor to sexually troubled youth. After an Oct. 27 front-page expose of Cook in The Denver Post, CFV chair Will Perkins said, "CFV does not believe the accusations against Colin Cook." Perkins both refuses to investigate Cook and refuses to listen to the 52,000-word tape recordings of Cook having phone sex this summer with a young client. "If I were to listen to those tapes, it would be like wading in a cesspool anyway," Perkins last week told the Colorado Springs newspaper The Independent. Perkins' former lieutenant at CFV, Amendment 2 co-author Kevin Tebedo, accuses The Denver Post of manufacturing the tape recordings. Cook refuses to comment on the authenticity of the tape recordings, even in the 10-page letter denying the allegations against him. In the widely circulated letter, Cook also accuses The Denver Post of slander for saying that Cook has had phone sex with clients as late as this summer. At the same time, he says he will not sue The Denver Post, although he says "Christian men" have advised him to do so. "We now know from a fax sent to Colorado for Family Values by homosexual activist Richard Cendo," Cook writes, "that the homosexual activist community worked hand in glove with the Denver Post to produce this article." Richard Cendo says Cook is lying. "I have never sent anything to Colorado for Family Values which stated that the homosexual activist community, or anyone else, has now, or at any time in the past, worked hand in glove, or in any other manner, with the Denver Post," Cendo said. "Colin Cook is lying, and he is defaming The Denver Post with reckless disregard for the truth," Cendo said "The real reason Cook won't to sue The Post is that he knows he's dead if all this ever gets to a court of law." Cendo said that Gays and Lesbians Against Immoral Lifestyles once again calls on CFV to withdraw its endorsement of Cook. "Cook's molestation ministry is growing exponentially because CFV refuses to act responsibly," Cendo said. "Will Perkins says the allegations against Cook are not true, but then he refuses to listen to the tape recordings that prove the allegations ARE true. Will Perkins has distanced himself from Cook by saying that CFV will no longer fund Cook's seminars, but then he refuses to withdraw CFV's endorsement and warn the thousands of people CFV has misled all year long." "Will Perkins is waffling and stonewalling to save CFV embarrassment," Cendo said. "And he is more than willing to put boys and young men in harm's way in order to save CFV embarrassment." --30--
