Date: Tue, 9 Aug 1994 17:17:41 -0700 From: "Kraig R. Meyer" Like most Universities, neither the admissions or financial aid forms at USC inquire about your sexual orientation. From that aspect, the process is blind to sexual orientation, although it's possible that you might divulge that information on essays (which are required for some graduate admissions; don't know if they are required for general undergraduate admissions or not). The other question is whether USC offers specific scholarships or considers circumstances of gay/lesbian students. I know of USC students who were cut off financially from their parents after their parents found out that they were gay. In several cases (and possibly many more), the USC Financial Aid office went out of its way to find emergency money so that the individuals could finish their education. Probably helps that there is "family" in the financial aid office there. Last year, the USC Lambda Alumni organization was formally recognized by the University. They sponsor several scholarships for gay students, including an emergency scholarship for individuals who've been estranged from their parents. ----- Original Message from Jay Hasbrouck ----- Has anyone heard anything about how USC handles issues associated with awarding financial aid/admissions, etc. to gay and lesbian students. I may be enrolling in the spring. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- For general unmoderated discussion, mail to "la-motss@flash.usc.edu".
