Building on last year's tremendous successes, the National Coming Out Week Committee is coordinating coming out events of interest all members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender communities. The highly diverse National Coming Out Week Committee has created a particular emphasis on programming of relevance to women and people of color. Among the highlights of this year's National Coming Out Week are: a rally on National Coming Out Day (October 11), with Jeff Horton (openly gay Board Member of the LA Unified School District who recently fought off a recall campaign); and a discussion of same sex marriage on Tuesday, October 10, moderated by Curt Shepard, Director of the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force's Campus Project and featuring Rabbi Lisa Edwards of Beth Chayim Chadashim, Lorri L. Jean, Executive Director of the LA Gay and Lesbian Center, and Stephanie and Sandra Farrington-Domingue, of the LA Gay and Lesbian Center and LA City Councilwoman Jackie Goldberg's staff, respectively. On Monday, October 9, local writers Nicole Conn, Pamela Gray, and Ta'Shia Asanti will read from their work and discuss coming out in their work and communities. The Out List, a compilation of the names of hundreds of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Bruins, will be published in the Daily Bruin on National Coming Out Day, October 11.
