University of California Berkeley Campus will be hosting the 5th General Assembly of the UCLGBA, a conglomeration of all B/L/G groups from all nine UC campuses. This Conference will be focusing on issues of gender through workshops, lectures, discussions, and presentations.The General Assembly is expected to draw 500 students, staff, and faculty from all the UC campuses. Also, because of Berkeley's location in the Bay area, many community members are expected to attend. The date for the conference is the weekend of April 11th and 12th. Conference activities are usually planned from 10 am to 5pm each day, with socials and entertainment on Friday and Saturday evenings. In conjunction with this conference, Berkeley will also be having its Bisexual, Lesbian, and Gay Awareness week, April 6th through the 12th. This week is full of workshops, films, lectures, socials, and activities celebrating and educating about bisexual, lesbian, and gay people and their cultures. Planning committees are forming to organize the conference and Awareness Week. The first meeting for the Awareness Week Committee is Tuesday, January 28th, at 6pm in room 251 Dwinelle Hall on the Berkeley Campus. The first meeting of the Conference planning committee is arranged for February 4th ,at six-thirty pm on the 4th Floor of the ASUC Building, also on the UCB campus. The meetings will concentrate on brainstorming ideas and pinning down an agendas. Anyone who has strong organizational and communication skills, lots of ideas, and is interested, is invited to become a part of the planning committee.
