Bay Area AIDS Study Draws Fire From L.A. Officials, Watchdog Groups

Media reports from San Francisco shocked the HIV/AIDS world recently by 
declaring that new infections of HIV in the city had "nearly tripled" to 900 
in the past year. The San Francisco Chronicle broke a press embargo on 
estimates made by University of California San Francisco (UCSF) researchers 
to make it the lead story on June 30, with the sensational headline "SF HIV 
Rate Surges."
