Regional Specialists hold primary responsibility for monitoring the human rights situation of sexual minorities and people with HIV within their assigned regions. Applicants should explain how their previous experience and training specifically prepares them for work with activists in Africa, the Middle East, and the English/French Caribbean. Job Description: 1. Regional Specialist will monitor, confirm and disseminate information about human rights violations visited upon persons because of their sexual orientation, gender identity or HIV status. 2. Working with relevant staff members, Regional Specialist will plan, write and oversee all aspects of publication of bimonthly action alerts and country specific, book length reports. 3. Act as liaison with Governmental, Non-Governmental and Inter-Governmental groups. 4. Field requests for information from media, colleagues, supporters and policy makers. 5. Recruit, train and coordinate volunteers and interns to work with existing regional research, documentation and advocacy activities. 6. Generate press coverage by writing press releases and interacting with the press. 7. Represent organization at conferences, meetings and other activities with local, national and international organizations. Promote organization's activities. Prepare public presentations, position papers and articles. Misc. Duties: Assist with and oversee administrative functions in the office en lieu of complete administrative support. Frequent travel. Minimum Qualifications: Written and verbal fluency in English and at least one regional language. Fluent in at least one of the cultures of the region(s). Computer proficiency. Demonstrable experience in community based organizing. Strong interpersonal and facilitation skills. Excellent written and analytical skills. Public speaking abilities. Excellent time management skills and ability to work under pressure and in multi-racial, multi-cultural workplace. Volunteer management experience. Preferred Qualifications: Regional expertise. Previous experience in international fora. Familiarity with Quark, FileMaker Pro, Electronic Mail, MSWord, and Excel software.
