NGLTF WELCOMES MEMBERS OF THE MEDIA TO CREATING CHANGE 1997 IN SAN DIEGO WASHINGTON, DC---October 1, 1997----The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force is sponsoring the tenth annual Creating Change Conference, the national conference for the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender movement. Creating Change, which will be held in San Diego, California, will feature over 120 workshops and small group networking sessions designed to enhance the confidence and skills of activists and organizers who work at the state and local level. NGLTF is issuing this advisory to provide general information to members of the press on covering the conference which will be held November 12-16, 1997. More detailed information will be available closer to the time of the event. The site of this year's conference is the Holiday Inn on the Bay in downtown San Diego. To receive the special room rate of $99.95 (single/double) or $109.95 (triple/quad), make your reservation for the Creating Change conference by October 10, 1997. The Media Registration area will be adjacent to the main registration area in the Porthole Room.Media registration begins on November 11, at 5:00 PM. Ground rules for covering Creating Change: -- The conference is open to the working media covering Creating Change, workshops, attendees, NGLTF, issues in the GLBT movement, etc. This includes plenaries, workshops and intensives. However, it is left to the discretion of workshop facilitators as to whether or not the press may cover a specific workshop. Members of the press must fax to the NGLTF media director a letter on official company letterhead signed by an editor or publisher stating that they have been assigned to cover the Conference. The letter must be received in our office by October 31, 1997. The fax number is 202-332-0207. -- We ask reporters to identify themselves to workshop facilitators or presenters if they plan on covering the workshop. -- Costs for registration and conference materials are waived for working reporters. However, reporters/photographers are responsible for their own lodging, transportation and meals, including the Sunday Brunch. -- NGLTF retains the right to refuse entry to Creating Change to any individual(s) if NGLTF deems such action is warranted. -- The People of Color pre-conference institute is for people of color only; "Race Is the Issue" pre-conference institute is open to anyone; "Crossing Divides and Borders" is closed to media; the Youth Organizing pre-conference institute is open to those 24 and under. -- Special Media Events: A daily advisory of media events will be issued at the conference.
