Date: Sat, 03 Feb 1996 01:58:29 -0500 From: Charlie Gallie Subject: San Franicsco Meeting of Digitals Please repost. Digitals is a group of online Democratic Party activists involved in transfering technology to Democratic Party candidates and organization so that we can defeat Newt and the Radical Right Republicans. There are currently over 10,000 on-line activist members of this organization attempting to revitalize the Democratic Party. Digitals is active online in every state in the country and is offering free web pages and mailing lists to assist in rebuilding the party online. There will be the founding meeting of Digitals in California in San Francisco on February 7, 1996. It should be a great event for anyone who attends. There is something neat that happens whenever we can put a face with a mysterious email handle. =20 This meeting is being organized by Rick Hauptman Rick_Hauptman@out.org and Claude Imbault CLAUDITOO@aol.com Wednesday February 7th=20 7:00PM TO 10pm=20 St.Francis Lutheran Church=20 152 Church Street San Francisco, CA The Church is across the street from the Safeway on the corner of Market and Church Street. The church is across the street from the big empty Safeway parking lot. Enough said! Anyone interested in helping with this meeting please contact Claude or Rick. I think they have very ambitious plans but I would be thrilled to hear that we had half a dozen folks for this first meeting. We got 75+- people at our meeting here in DC with a week's notice, but we offered free food. It also was a fundraiser where no one was turned away because of lack of money. People in DC are use to eating at someone else's expense(?)= Please help us spread the word. Digitals is NOW an organization of over 10,000 people but our first REAL event was a meeting of half a dozen people in April of last year. We plan to grow to 100,000 by September of this year, not as one big hierarchical organization, but as thousands of small individual organizations resonsible for transfering this technology to the local candidates and organizations. The Bay Area should be a leader in this effort. It would be great if we could get a big turnout, but we're more interested in a handful of entheuastic people interested in changing the way the Democratic Party campaigns. Please pass the word on to anyone interested in grassroots organizing, and post this announcement wherever appropriate. =20 If you can't make the meeting please send your suggestions, comments, opinions along to Rick, Claude, myself or share them with= ca-digitals@webcom.com Thanks Charlie Gallie Digitals Objectives=20 1. Build a nationwide volunteer, cyber community of several hundred thousand computerized volunteers supplemented by thousands of volunteers without computers working for themselves, local Democratic candidates, Democratic clubs, Democratic Party organizations or progressive organizations. 2. Build a database of every household in each community for use in voter registration and GOTV (Get Out the Vote). Using this household list, identify every registered voter and every unregistered potential voter in each community. 3. Get ten million unregistered Democratic voters registered nationwide by September 1996. =20 4. Contact every household in a community and identify our supporters by doing a 100% household poll. 5. Challenge our Supporters to volunteer, contribute, participate in grassroots lobbying and participate in the election process including running for office themselves. Encourage them to shift from being observers to being participants in the political process.= =20 6. Network all of our volunteers together using the Internet and software provided by our organization and others, to collect and manage the campaign information. 7. Develop a system of peer to peer electronic communications allowing our membership to communicate with each other so that they can directly communicate their ideas without the filter of the press to dilute the message. This system will include e-mail in unheard of numbers, fax distribution, fax-back and telephone Messaging systems. All done at little or no cost. 8. Support the Democratic candidates for the 96 elections and with this technology and our efforts, assure their election. 9. Raise millions in contributions for candidates in amounts of $100 or= less. 10. Develop a system of electronic communications allowing our membership to communicate with each other so that we can directly communicate our ideas without the filter of the press to dilute the message. This system will include e-mail in unheard of numbers, fax distribution, fax-back and telephone Messaging systems. All done at little or no cost. 11. Develop the largest most comprehensive GOTV effort ever mounted by using all the new technology including fax machines, bar code readers, a network of computers scattered across the country, fax-in, fax-back, voice mail and 800 and 900 numbers. 1. Solicit every Democratic candidate for any office, to begin recruiting volunteers and begin training them in these new technologies on how to collect the information required for this effort. Each campaign call help other campaigns by the data collected and the support gained. 12. Develop specific recruitment programs to encourage every ethic, social, religious, gender, sexual orientation and/or political group within the Party to participate in this activity to the fullest extent possible.
