Subject: STOP WILSON'S ATTACK ON GAY & LESBIAN FAMILIES

GOVERNOR WILSON SACRIFICES THE
BEST INTERESTS OF CALIFORNIA CHILDREN
TO ANTI-GAY AND LESBIAN AGENDA

At the behest of right-wing extremists, Governor Wilson is
seeking to change Department of Social Services regulations
to prevent "unmarried couples" from adopting, thereby
putting an end to second-parent adoptions. Once again,
Wilson's desire to curry favor with religious political extremists
is interfering with sound policy.

The proposed change in regulations constitutes an
attack on gay, lesbian and other non-traditional families.
Children with two unmarried parents would be denied the
security of a legally binding relationship with both parents --
an obstacle which could discourage adoptions and result
in many children never finding permanent homes at all.

Clearly, Governor Wilson has political interests in mind
when he proposes we scrap the tried and true adoption
standard of the "best interest of the child" in order
to punish unmarried couples. He is certainly not acting
in the best interest of California families.
