A caller using anti-gay language told a staffer to "get out of the building unless you want to die." A police search of the agency's offices and the rest of the 14-floor building revealed no bomb. "We took the threat very seriously," said LIFE Executive Director Laurie McBride. "Yesterday, just four blocks away, a mail-bomb explosion killed a forestry lobbyist. "I blame the politics of division, the rhetoric of demagogues on the rabid right for helping create a climate that allows extremists of all stripes to think their terrorist acts are somehow justified," McBride said. "Hate rhetoric is not entertainment. Hate rhetoric is not political commentary. Hate rhetoric is an incitement to violence," she charged. LIFE lobbies on behalf of more than 100 gay/lesbian and HIV- related organizations statewide. ==end==
