The California State Board of Education seeks applications of candidates for appointment to the Curriculum Development and Supplemental Materials Commission (CDSMC). The CDSMC is a statutorily constituted advisory body to the State Board of Education and the Superintendent of Public Instruction on all matters pertaining to curriculum framework development and instructional materials adoption. The Board appoints 13 members of the CDSMC, each representing different public and professional groups. As of October 31, 1995, four terms will expire on the CDSMC. The Board is seeking qualified candidates to represent kindergarten through grade twelve teachers or administrators, or representatives of higher education, especially with subject matter expertise in one or more of the following areas: English-Language Arts Mathematics Science In making its appointments, the Board attempts to keep the CDSMC's composition reflective of California's general population within the specific constraints of the law. CDSMC terms are four years. The terms of the pending appointments will begin November 1, 1995 and end October 31, 1999. Commissioners are not paid; however travel and lodging expenses are reimbursed. Funding is not provided for substitute teaching personnel. The work of the CDSMC is important and demanding. The Commission meets approximately five times per year for two or three day meetings. Additional time is required to serve on subcommittees of the Commission. Individuals applying should be knowledgeable and willing to commit the time and effort required. Applications should be submitted to the Board Office as soon as possible and postmarked no later than Friday, August 18, 1995. All applications will be screened and those candidates selected will be asked to appear for an interview. Interviews are anticipated in October and will take place in Sacramento with the Board's Screening Committee. Announcement of the Board's appointments will follow soon thereafter.
