AB 2810 The following letter from Assemblyman Richard Katz gives the current status of CaliforniaÕs AB 2810. Thanks to your letters, phone calls and hard work expressing strong support for my AB 2810, the bill passed the Assembly Judiciary Committee Wednesday, April 20, 1994, on a 8-1 bipartisan vote. As you know, this legislation would give couples in committed family relationships the right to visit each other in the hospital and serve as each others conservator. The bill would also make it easier for couples to will property. AB 2810 guarantees that all of California's families are treated with the basic level of decency and compassion. While this first victory is encouraging, the legislative battle has only begun. The next hurdle will be the Assembly WAYS AND MEANS COMMITTEE. Again, passing AB 2810 out of this committee will require all of our efforts. I am enclosing a list of the members of the Ways and Means Committee and their addresses. Please send a letter of support to each committee member as soon as possible as well as a copy to me. The bill will be scheduled for a hearing within the next few weeks. Please also continue to generate additional letters of support by spreading the word to friends, family, community groups and others. Thank you for your continued support of this important bill. Sincerely, sig/ Richard Katz 39th Assembly District.
