These bills (numbered 226 and 227 respectively) were introduced in response to a case that was recently sent to the Alaska Supreme Court in which two same-sex couples at the University of Alaska Fairbanks were granted health benefits for their domestic partners. The gay and lesbian community of Alaska is trying to fight these bills as they could have a very detrimental effect on the court case that is currently pending as well as on future efforts for equality in the state of Alaska. If you are interested in helping with this effort, you can send a fax to the legislative information office in juneau fax number (907) 465-4648 telling them that you oppose legislation of this sort. We are also looking for anyone who has dealt with issues such as this one before who can give us ideas as to how to fight these bills. Thank you for your time.
