TAKE ACTION! TAKE ACTION! --------------------------------------------------------------------- LOBBY DAYS ARE HERE AGAIN GenderPAC's National Lobby Days are rapidly approaching, and we need you to be there. This is one of our greatest chances to really educate Congress on gender issues and gender-based oppression, but we can't do it without your help. As a first step, we are asking each Member of Congress to include "gender orientation" in their own office's non-discrimination policy. It doesn't require a vote on the floor or even a public statement, it just means that the Member agrees that his or her office will not discriminate based on gender. It's a great springboard from which to talk to them about gender-inclusion in the Hate Crimes Prevention Act, the Employment Non-Discrimination Act, and other civil rights legislation. To date, only a few Members have made this commitment. 316 Members (Democrats, Republicans, and an Independent) include "sexual orientation" in their non-discrimination policy. But the overwhelming majority of those Members don't yet protect gender expression. --------------------------------------------------------------------- You can look up your U.S. Senators and U. S. Representative (and their addresses, phone numbers, fax numbers, and e-mail addresses) on Vote Smart's website, www.vote-smart.org. Please write them a letter or call them (a handwritten letter is best, but everything helps) and ask them to include gender orientation (i.e., gender identity and how it is expressed) in their office's Equal Employment Opportunity policy. Then, tell them that you'd like an appointment to meet with them about the issues, either in Washington as a part of our Lobby Days or in their district office (somewhere near you!) if you can't make it. We'll be happy to provide you with informational materials, and a training on how to lobby is included as a part of our Lobby Days. Last but not least, let us know what response you get (you can email us at lobbyday@gpac.org). --------------------------------------------------------------------- PLEASE REGISTER SOON!
