CROSS-DRESSER MURDERED IN NEW JERSEY
========================================

[Passaic, NJ: 2 Sep 99] KAREEM WASHINGTON, 21, WAS
found dead Sunday morning in an industrial area of Passaic
frequented by prostitutes. He had been stabbed several
times in the back and neck. At the time of his death,
Washington was wearing a skirt, pantyhose, and high heels.

    The Bergen County Record reports that Washington's
wallet, containing cash and identification, was found on the
body, so police have ruled out robbery as a motive.

    Cynthia Washington, the victim's mother, said on Monday
that Kareem was a homosexual who occasionally wore
women's clothes, but was not a prostitute as investigators
have suggested. "He loved people and was very happy-go-
lucky," she said.

    Police say they have no suspects and few leads to pursue.
