Box 32070 Louisville, KY 40232-2070 Mr. Richard Kinz Atascadero, CA March 22, 1995 Dear Mr. Kinz: Thank you for calling to alert us to a rumor you read on the Internet. [I didn't call to alert, I called to protest] I can assure you that such an act would be contrary to the KFC Equal Employment Opportunity Policy, a copy of which is enclosed. It is absolutely unacceptable to KFC to terminate an employee because of their sexual orientation, even though that may not currently be a legally-protected status in a number of communities. We respect the personal choices of our employees with regard to such things as religion, politics, and sexual orientation. [personal choice?] We have been unable to find any substantiation for the rumor. It is unfortunate that the author of this rumor did not check with us before putting this information on the Internet and we are at a loss to understand what the motive or purpose would be. Thank you again for giving us this opportunity to clarify our policy. If more people know the truth, it may be easier to put an end to this rumor. To that end, please feel free to share our response. [as a matter of fairness, I am posting this on the GLB News where I got it from and to other nets which I later posted to.] Sincerely, Shirley Topmiller Group Manager - Consumer Affairs Attachment: Policy: EQUAL EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY Scope: ALL ASSOCIATES Issued: January 1, 1986 Revised: April 2, 1993 POLICY STATEMENT It is KFC's goal to encourage gender, racial and ethnic diversity at all levels of its work force and to maintain a working environment free of discrimination and sexual harassment.
