He quoted Dr. Laura’s comparison between “anti-gay” and “anti-gay-activist- agenda.” As the agenda of gay rights activists (not all of whom are gay) is to make real the constitutional promise of equal protection under the law for those who are attracted to people of the same gender, it is difficult to understand how attacking the agenda could possibly be construed as anything but an attack on the people. Does Dr. Laura think that sexual minorities have an overwhelming urge to live as second-class citizens? Also, Stein contrasted “secular” with “traditional religious” understanding. We are not sure what he means by “traditional religious” teaching but he seems to use it interchangeably with “Judeo-Christian thought and Western moral tradition.” Plenty of people from Jewish, Christian, and other religious traditions from many parts of the world do not share Dr. Laura’s views on sexual minorities.
