They were unable to understand the pain expressed by those opposed to the measure. While it would certainly be worse if proponents of Proposition 22 were being driven by active hatred or animosity, the fact that they are instead being driven by a desire to explicitly reinforce a discriminatory status quo does not in any way make that support any more morally, ethically, or Constitutionally excusable, or lessen the legal and psychological impact on their gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender neighbors.
