Date: Thu, 17 Feb 2000 21:08:50 -0500 From: Interfaith Working Group Subject: IWG Inland Valley CA Prop 22 letter February 15, 2000 Inland Valley Daily Bulletin 2041 East 4th St. Ontario, CA 91764 Dear Editors: In his February 11 letter, Scott Knecht said that Proposition 22 “has no legal impact on the lifestyles or relationships of homosexuals in California or on any of their rights.” If same-gender marriage becomes legal in any state, Proposition 22 would specifically take away rights from some legally-married couples moving to or visiting California, and their rights would be taken away based solely on gender. The legislation would not take away rights from anyone already in California because it is reiterating the fact that sexual minorities in California (and every other state) are already denied equal treatment under the law. It is very difficult to see how Knecht can claim that Proposition 22 “is not ‘anti’ anything” or how it can “protect the institution of marriage” in California.
