Dear Editors:

The only purpose of Brian A. Brown's July 2 piece
"Houses of Worship: Pride and Prejudice" seems to be
to contrast bisexual, gay, lesbian, and transgender
people with Christians. Brown didn't even consider
that there are many Christians who support equal
rights for sexual minorities, and many sexual
minorities who are Christians. There is no
monolithic plan among gay rights activists for
reacting to religious organizations that have
mentally abused BGLT people who were born into their
ranks and that have worked against equal legal
treatment for sexual minorities. Contrasting people
of faith with sexual minorities as though there is no
overlap at all is a false dichotomy we hope all
journalists will drop.

Sincerely,
Barbara Purdom Christopher Purdom

The above letter went out on IWG letterhead listing 17 congregations and
organizations and 67 clergy from 15 religious traditions. If you are in
the general Philadelphia area and represent a congregation or religious
organization or are clergy, let us know if you want to be added - all faiths
are welcome. We will also be happy to help start similar organizations in
other areas.
