Dear Editors:

Julio C. Calderon's July 10 letter could have been
more accurately headlined: "Voting against marriage"
(rather than for marriage). The issue before the
people of California is whether all families will be
treated equally under the law, not just those that
appear to adhere to some religious definitions. Of
course, that question is already covered by the First
Amendment. But since the issue is being put to a
vote, we certainly hope Californians will vote for
marriage, for families, for existing families, and
for families not yet formed, regardless of the gender
of the consenting adults.

Sincerely,
Barbara Purdom Christopher Purdom

The above letter went out on IWG letterhead listing 17 congregations and
organizations and 67 clergy from 15 religious traditions. If you are in
the general Philadelphia area and represent a congregation or religious
organization or are clergy, let us know if you want to be added - all faiths
are welcome. We will also be happy to help start similar organizations in
other areas.
