Dear Editors:

Thank you for your coverage of the recent rally at the
William Way Community Center in response to anticipated
picketing by Fred Phelps. As a matter of accuracy,
however, the phrase "gay activists" used in the story
as a description of those present fails to adequately
describe a crowd that included people who are gay,
lesbian, bisexual, transgendered and straight,
including city officials and their representatives,
political candidates, clergy, and civil rights
activists. Because of this, "concerned citizens" would
have been a more accurate and descriptive phrase.

Sincerely,
Barbara Purdom Christopher Purdom

The above letter went out on IWG letterhead listing 17 congregations and
organizations and 61 clergy from 15 religious traditions. If you are in
the general Philadelphia area and represent a congregation or religious
organization or are clergy, let us know if you want to be added - all faiths
are welcome. We will also be happy to help start similar organizations in
other areas.
