Dear Editor:

We were troubled by Robert D. Kettering's extremely
inaccurate use of language in his February 14 opinion
piece. Kettering speaks very generally and
interchangeably about Judeo-Christian principles,
Christian traditions, people of faith, average people
and Christians in conjunction with a very specific
set of opinions on government-sponsored religious
displays, government-supported religious schools,
legal abortion, and equal rights for sexual
minorities. Jews, Christians, and other people of
faith have incredibly varied opinions on all of these
subjects. We neither share Kettering's views on any
of these issues nor appreciate his attempts to
downplay America's diverse religious heritage.

The above letter went out on IWG letterhead listing 17 congregations and
organizations and 61 clergy from 15 religious traditions. If you are in
the general Philadelphia area and represent a congregation or religious
organization or are clergy, let us know if you want to be added - all faiths
are welcome. We will also be happy to help start similar organizations in
other areas.

Sincerely,
Barbara Purdom Christopher Purdom
