Dear Editors:

We were astounded by Marjorie J. Hughson's assertion
[letter, March 17] that you cannot be both gay and
religious. Ms. Hughson is clearly equating
"religious" with "evangelical Christian" since she
goes on to say that "no church can save a
homosexual." She seems to not know that there are
many religions in the world, including many varieties
of Christianity, and many viewpoints within
Christianity on the sinfulness of same-gender sexual
behavior , and how one goes about being "saved."

Sincerely,
Barbara Purdom Christopher Purdom
