Dear Editors:

We were disappointed by the Supreme Court's decision
not to rule on the constitutionality of vouchers for
religious schools. Regardless of what the courts
ultimately decide we hope that everyone will think
twice before supporting a plan that gives tax dollars
to institutions that engage in religious
indoctrination, or that show favoritism to students who
participate in school-sponsored religiously-oriented
political activities. There are two possible dangers
inherent in vouchers: using public money to finance
schools over which the public has no control, or
requiring religious schools to be regulated by the
state.

Sincerely,
Barbara Purdom Christopher Purdom

The above letter went out on IWG letterhead listing 16 congregations and
organizations and 60 clergy from 15 religious traditions. If you are in
the general Philadelphia area and represent a congregation or religious
organization or are clergy, let us know if you want to be added - all faiths
are welcome. We will also be happy to help start similar organizations in
other areas.
