The following went out on IWG letterhead listing 12 congregations and
organizations and 54 clergy from 15 religious traditions. If you are in
the general Philadelphia area and represent a congregation or religious
organization or are clergy, let us know if you want to be added - all faiths
are welcome. We will also be happy to help start similar organizations in
other areas.

Dear Editors:

In his letter of January 22, the Rev. Alvin J. Paine
stated that Barbara DiTullio's criticism of the Promise
Keepers was based on the fact that the organization's
members were men, and "largely Christian." Given that
male Christian clergy were among the speakers
criticizing the Promise Keeper's leadership alongside
Ms. DiTullio at the Equal Partners in Faith press
conference, this seems highly unlikely. The Promise
Keepers do not represent all Christian men, nor was the
country founded solely by or for Christian men. Rev.
Paine's insinuation that criticism of the Promise
Keeper's leadership is akin to criticism of the United
States is exactly the sort of attitude that has led us
to believe that the organization deserves a high level
of scrutiny.

Sincerely,
Barbara Purdom Christopher Purdom
