The following went out on IWG letterhead listing 12 congregations and
organizations and 53 clergy from 15 religious traditions. If you are in
the general Philadelphia area and represent a congregation or religious
organization or are clergy, let us know if you want to be added - all faiths
are welcome. We will also be happy to help start similar organizations in
other areas.

Dear Editors:

We were fascinated by Dorwin Cornell's February 5
letter, which rehashed a very old Cal Thomas column
about the Rev. Philip Wogaman. Thomas' column was
based on a report from the Institute for Religion and
Democracy, an organization which works to undermine
support for progressive religious ideas and spread
discord among the mainline Protestant denominations.
Mr. Cornell added his own warnings about the effects
of "false religious doctrine and perverted moral
standards," and their effect on governmental
structure and policies. In a nation which has a
constitutional guarantee of religious liberty,
exactly who is going to determine what constitutes
false religious doctrine? From his comments
indicating his obvious displeasure over increased
religious support for sexual minorities, it is
obvious that Mr. Cornell does not trust the American
people to decide for themselves.

Sincerely,
Barbara Purdom Christopher Purdom
