January 25, 1998 Daily Nebraskan University of Nebraska - Lincoln Nebraska Union 34 1400 R St Lincoln, NE 68588-0448 Dear Editors: We were astounded by the assertion of Clint Keller and Matt Molsen (letter, January 23) that "heterosexuals who seek the normalization of homosexuality" are "weakening society's standards and should be condemned for this belief." Keller and Molsen are condemning religious activists from many faith traditions who are simply trying to convince society to work within what they believe is a higher standard based on love and respect rather than the enforcement of rigid gender roles. Society can define "family" in such a way that families of all types are treated equally, just as we define religion broadly enough that people of all faiths are afforded the same protections.
