The following went out on IWG letterhead listing 12 congregations and
organizations and 56 clergy from 15 religious traditions. If you are in
the general Philadelphia area and represent a congregation or religious
organization or are clergy, let us know if you want to be added - all faiths
are welcome. We will also be happy to help start similar organizations in
other areas.

Dear Editors:

We agree with Kathleen and Marianne Wasson (letter,
May 1) that Fred Phelps' views on homosexuality are
somewhat unique among Christians. However, the
Wasson sisters overstate their case when they discuss
"the" Christian view on homosexuality or demand that
"the" Christian view be presented in your paper.
There are many Christian viewpoints on homosexuality,
including the rapidly growing minority opinion that
same-gender sexual relationships are no more
inherently sinful than mixed-gender sexual
relationships. Not only are there many other
Christian viewpoints that could have been
represented, there are many denominations and sects
within Christianity, and many other religions whose
followers also hold a wide variety of opinions on
various social issues.

Sincerely,
Barbara Purdom Christopher Purdom
