Dear Editors:

We certainly agree that religious job discrimination
is just as bad as sexual orientation job
discrimination. In the case of Reggie White,
however, the jobs involved representing companies to
the public; he made extremely stereotyped statements
about people of various ethnicities (many of whom
might have shunned those companies); he showed a
willingness to drag his employers into debates where
they have no wish to go (he appeared in a political
ad wearing his Packers uniform); and the
organizations sponsoring the ads in question advocate
limiting the rights of even more potential and
current customers. Obviously, this is not a simple
case of religious job discrimination.

Sincerely,
Barbara Purdom Christopher Purdom

The above letter went out on IWG letterhead listing 16 congregations and
organizations and 59 clergy from 16 religious traditions. If you are in
the general Philadelphia area and represent a congregation or religious
organization or are clergy, let us know if you want to be added - all faiths
are welcome. We will also be happy to help start similar organizations in
other areas.
