The Morning Call
101 N. 6th Street
Allentown, PA 18105

Dear Editors:

Before a verdict was reached in the church trial of
the Rev. Jimmy Creech, those who opposed his actions
were calling for uniformity, adherence to church
doctrine as they perceived it, and the good of the
denomination. Now that he has been acquitted, those
who disagree with that verdict are doing everything
they can to distance themselves from the decision and
the United Methodist hierarchy, and to assure the
public that they still oppose equality for sexual
minorities. We, like many people, believe that
religion should be a force for reconciliation, and we
know that Rev. Creech's congregation is not unique,
and that there are houses of worship in many faith
traditions where gays and lesbians are just as
welcome and respected as everyone else.

Sincerely,
Barbara Purdom Christopher Purdom
