The following went out on IWG letterhead listing 12 congregations and
organizations and 53 clergy from 15 religious traditions. If you are in
the general Philadelphia area and represent a congregation or religious
organization or are clergy, let us know if you want to be added - all faiths
are welcome. We will also be happy to help start similar organizations in
other areas.

Dear Editors:

We were confused by the conclusion of your December 20
comments regarding gay couples and adoption. You
wrote, "Indeed, anxiety over the notion that the state
should have no special relationship with the
institution of heterosexual marriage extends far beyond
those who dislike homosexuality and homosexuals." We
do not understand why the genders of the people
involved makes a marriage more or less deserving of a
special status. It is also apparent that those who
object to same-gender marriage believe that
heterosexuality is superior, whether they claim to
dislike non-heterosexuals or not.

Sincerely,
Barbara Purdom Christopher Purdom
