The following went out on IWG letterhead listing 3 congregations, 5 religious
organizations and 37 clergy from 12 faiths and denominations. If you are in
the general Philadelphia area and represent a congregation or religious
organization or are clergy, let us know if you want to be added - all faiths
are welcome. We will also be happy to help start similar organizations in
other areas.

Dear Editors:

We were astounded by the number of readers who wrote in
attacking the notion that it might be possible to
interpret the Bible in such a way that homosexuality is
not inherently sinful. It was especially peculiar
coming from such a religiously diverse group of
Christians. Christians disagree on such fundamental
questions as the nature of the Trinity, the meaning of Baptism,
the acceptability of divorce, correct forms of church
governance, what it means to be born again, the
necessity of tithing, the correct relationship between
church and state, the eligibility of women for
ordination, whether the Sabbath should be Saturday or
Sunday, the calendar dates of Christmas and Easter, and
the frequency and meaning of communion. Why should the
sinfulness of homosexuality be any less subject to
varying interpretations?

Sincerely,
Barbara Purdom Christopher Purdom
